Online music education strategies

Read about the different courses and professional training I developed and offer to various education institutions.

As the Covid-19 pandemic forced many educational institutions to transition to online learning, it became clear that teachers needed support and guidance to adapt to this new format. Fortunately, I was researching and developing strategies for online music education since 2004 and for my surprise all this knowledge was all of a sudden very much requested by institutions and educators all over Europe and the Americas.

One of the courses I offer is called "Online collaboration and creative work: Strategies to spark motivation". This seminar was developed specifically for the trainers and staff of Musicians Without Borders, an organization that uses music to bring people together in areas of conflict around the world. The focus of the seminar was on how to spark motivation and creativity in online collaboration, particularly in the context of the challenges of confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this course, we explore ways to take advantage of the internet to create collaborative and creative work that can motivate and engage students. We examine tools and platforms that can facilitate online collaboration, and we discuss strategies for creating a supportive and inclusive online learning environment.Watch a video about this seminar here.

Another course I offer is "Challenges, Solutions and Alternatives for music education". This seminar was developed for the teacher staff of the Methodologies of Music Training Program at Javeriana University. The focus of this seminar was on understanding that online learning can be very different from the traditional uni-directional method of teaching. We discussed the challenges and advantages that online learning brings, especially in the context of the challenges of confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this course, we explore ways to look at online education and learning with different eyes, and how to develop effective strategies for engaging and motivating students in an online setting. We discuss different tools and platforms that can be used for online music education, and we explore how to adapt traditional teaching methodologies to the online environment. Watch a video about this seminar here.

I make a big effort by developing courses and seminars for teachers of institutions based on their current needs in regards to the digitalization of teaching. So there's never a course that I repeat. They are all tailor made. With years of experience teaching and researching music education and online learning, I came to understand that each context needs a very specific solution to approach the challenges and opportunities presented by this new era of education.

If you're a music educator looking to improve your online teaching skills, or if you're an institution looking for guidance on how to effectively transition to online music education, my courses and seminars can provide the support and guidance you need to succeed in this new era of education.
